Anoka police responded to a war protest outside of an Alliant Techsystems plant Wednesday morning, after employees were prevented from driving in to work.
Nine protesters were arrested after chaining themselves together, blocking a driveway into a plant run by ATK, the largest ammunition provider in the world.
The protesters were from an anti-war group they called Project to Stop the War Industry.
“Someone had to do it…lay their bodies down, because elected officials aren’t blocking the cycle of war with legislation, so we have to put our bodies in the way,” said group leader Michael Galvin
Anoka police dragged nine of the protesters into squad cars after removing the chains and locks that kept them from moving.
“They caused a scene, they have a right to freedom of speech… they distracted what we needed to do, we reacted to what happened,” said Anoka Police Capt. Scott Nolan.
